We as Catholics are asked to give for a few reasons. The most obvious reason, of course, is that our parish could not run without the generosity of parishioners. The operational cost of running a parish continues to rise, and in order to continue our mission of bringing families to Christ, we need help. However, we are asked to give beyond this first reason. 

 

Stewardship, giving back our time, talent, and treasure to God, helps us see everything in our lives for what it truly is—a gift from God. God has generously made us stewards of his gifts, and in love and gratitude, we return a portion of it to Him. With a stewardship mentality, we learn to live with gratitude for the immense blessings God has given us. We are able to give, not out of a sense of obligation, but because a grateful heart desires to give in return. 

 

Giving back is more than just supporting the financial needs of the parish; it is about the spiritual reality that giving generously is good for us. Truly, we do not simply “give to a need”; at a much deeper level, we have a need to give.
