Baptism Classes

We usually offer Baptism Classes monthly. Please call the Parish Office for class dates and times.  Parents interested in baptizing their children at Saint Rose of Lima must be registered in the parish for a minimum of 3 months, and attend Mass regularly.  Parents and godparents must attend the class. Please call the office if you have questions (303) 778-7673.

Preparation Steps for Baptism

1. Call the parish office (303)-778-7673
2.Complete Baptism Info Form (available in the parish office).
3. Complete Godparents Eligibility Form (available in the parish office).
4. The Baptism Preparation Class is offered the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 7:00 pm. To attend the class all requirements must have been completed.
5. The sacrament of Baptism is celebrated the last Saturday of the month at 2:00 pm​

Requirements

Parents:

  • Parents must be willing to bring their child up in the Catholic Faith. Baptism is the beginning of supernatural life, but it must be nurtured throughout life.

  • If parents belong to a parish other than St. Rose of Lima, they will have to provide a letter of permission from their pastor to have their child baptized at St. Rose of Lima. This is true if parents live outside the St. Rose of Lima parish boundaries and have not been registered here. They are automatically parishioners of the parish they live in (their “parish of residence”).

  • Parents must attend a baptism preparation class here or at their parish.

Godparents/Sponsors:

  • Must be good examples and sources of support for both the child and the parents and be fully initiated members of the Catholic church.

  • Must be confirmed and at least 16 years old. (Proof of the reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is required).

  • Must either be living a chaste life as a single person or be married in a valid Catholic marriage. (Proof of the celebration of catholic marriage is required, if applicable).

  • Must be actively living their faith, attend Mass and confession regularly.

  • Must attend a baptism preparation class here or supply proof of attendance from their local parish.

  • If there is only one Catholic godparent, a baptized person who belongs to a non-Catholic Christian church may participate as a Christian Witness to the baptism but does not take on the role or title of godparent.

FAQS

1.  How should I pick godparents for my child?

A godparent is not an honorary role, but a role model and support for living the Christian life. There are certain requirements according to the Church’s law (The Code of Canon Law) for godparents: the godparent must be at least sixteen years old, have received the sacraments of initiation, be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church, and cannot be the parents.

2.  Can a non-Catholic serve as a godparent?

Someone who is a baptized Christian and who is not Catholic may not serve as a godparent but can be a Christian witness for the baptized, alongside of a godparent of the opposite sex who meets the requirements for godparents.

3.  If I am an adult or I have a child above the age of seven requesting baptism, what do I need to do?

Adults and children seven and above go through the Rites of Christian Initiation to be baptized at the Easter Vigil Mass. Please visit our RCIA page to learn more.
